OPENING SONG

VERSE

Jesus, refuge of the weary,

Blest Redeemer, whom we love,

Fountain in life’s desert dreary,

Savior from the world above:

Often have Your eyes, offended,

Gazed upon the sinner’s fall;

Yet upon the cross extended,

You have borne the pain of all.

VERSE

Do we pass that cross unheeding,

Breathing no repentant vow,

Though we see You wounded, bleeding,

See Your thorn-encircled brow?

Yet Your sinless death has brought us

Life eternal, peace, and rest;

Only what Your grace has taught us

Calms the sinner’s deep distress.

VERSE

Jesus, may our hearts be burning

With more fervent love for You;

May our eyes be ever turning

To behold Your cross anew

Till in glory, parted never

From the blessèd Savior’s side,

Graven in our hearts forever,

Dwell the cross, the Crucified.

CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION

P: In the name of the Father,

and of the Son +,

and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen

P: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God, our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.

P: Our help is in the name of the Lord.

C: Who made heaven and earth.

P: I said, I will confess my

transgressions unto the Lord.

C: And thou forgavest

the iniquity of my sin.

P: Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer, we poor sinners confess unto Thee that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we have sinned against Thee in thought, word, and deed. Wherefore we flee for refuge to Thine infinite mercy, seeking and imploring Thy grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.

TIME FOR REFLECTION

P: We join together in saying...

All: O most merciful God, who hast given Thine only-begotten Son to die for us, have mercy upon us and for HIs sake grant us remission of all our sins; and by Thy Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of Thee and Thy will and true obedience to Thy Word, to the end that by Thy grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

P: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, hath had mercy upon us and hath given His only Son to die for us and for HIs sake forgiveth us all our sins. To them that believe on His name He giveth the power to become the sons of God and hath promised them His Holy Spirit. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. Grant this Lord unto us all.

P: O Lord, open my lips,

C: and my mouth

will declare Your praise.

P: Make haste, O God, to deliver me;

C: make haste to help me, O Lord.

C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Praise to You, O Christ,

Lamb of our salvation.

SONG BEFORE SERMON

VERSE

Lord Jesus, think on me

And purge away my sin;

From worldly passions set me free

And make me pure within.

VERSE

Lord Jesus, think on me,

By anxious thoughts oppressed;

Let me Your loving servant be

And taste Your promised rest.

VERSE

Lord Jesus, think on me

Amid the battle’s strife;

In all my pain and misery,

O be my health and life!

VERSE

Lord Jesus, think on me

Nor let me go astray;

Through darkness and perplexity

Point out Your chosen way.

VERSE

Lord Jesus, think on me

That, when this life is past,

I may the eternal brightness see

And share Your joy at last.

APOSTLES' CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

OFFERING

LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

BENEDICTION

CLOSING SONG

VERSE

O Lord, throughout these forty days

You prayed and kept the fast;

Inspire repentance for our sin,

And free us from our past.

VERSE

You strove with Satan, and You won;

Your faithfulness endured;

Lend us Your nerve, Your skill and trust

In God’s eternal Word.

VERSE

Though parched and hungry, yet You prayed

And fixed Your mind above;

So teach us to deny ourselves,

Since we have known God’s love.

VERSE

Be with us through this season, Lord,

And all our earthly days,

That when the final Easter dawns,

We join in heaven’s praise.

GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR FAMILY
